unless I'm mistaken - that is [a broken] left/front brake pad sensor

it gets shoved in a little slot in one of the brake pads

Yea so you can keep paying for those or wire it closed so the light goes off...

If you wire it closed tell the next owner, always wire it closed with enough room to add the sensor on again if need be.
