You'll be 4-5 hours away from the Nurburgring but it would be worth a trip.

Check these guys out - http://www.rentracecar.de/index-gb.htm We used them years ago when we went when they were just getting the business off the ground. I think going for a ride around the ring in Theo's TDI Golf (he was keeping up with 997 GT3s in the corners) was almost more fun than driving an E36 325 around the ring.

Looks like now they have an entire fleet of cars. Looks like they only offer 1 car for someone under 25, but would still definitely be worth it.

The autobahn is far from a straight road.

120mph is boring because even the shittiest cars here are made to go atleast that. But I'm not saying you should go faster because you are not be used to switching lanes fast, making sure you don't hit a 55mph truck or get in the way of a 150+mph Porsche.
The shittier the car you rent, the more exciting it'll be. An M5 is great, but being constructed to travel these speeds makes it feel like travelling 30mph in a Geo Metro.
          Visit the ring instead.

Rentals on the ring are frowned upon.

We had an 08 Opel Astra Convertible when visiting there in 08. It only had a 1.6 4 with 5 speed stick, but BOY was it fun ringing the crap outta that thing on the Autobahn. The roads were as clear and clean as glass in fall, and the drives thru the black forest were spectacular!!
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

If I was 21 and without track experience (don't know about OP), I would rather take the Ring Taxi.

plus they have spies that report you taking a rental on the ring. They will hit you with fee's when you go turn in the car.

                              that is not true.

                              urban legend.

the ring is a normal road. all insurance companies must pay, but if your speeding (which there are speed limits that noone follows on the ring) then you might have a bit of a problem. but it is no different than crashing on the autobahn.

met some young american that had a 7 hour layover in frankfurt and rented a Ford station wagon and ran 2 laps with it a few weeks ago. Sure the rental cars don't like it, and that could very well be in the rental contract that you arent allowed on the ring-- but it is NOT racetrack on open public days.

you can rent a car from one of the companys in Nürburg.
