At least thats how it started...
I was attending a mini-meet last night with a few local folks, when an e60 m5 rolls up. Turns out he saw our cars and decided to pop in and see what's up... afterwards he drives to the other side of the parking lot to pick up his girl, and about 15 mins later he walks back to us and says, "Boy am I glad you guys are here... I think I need a jump."
It didn't take long to arrive at the conclusion that my e30 was the ideal candidate for the job, solely for the photo op (other cars were an e36, an e46, and some e90/92s).
So I drive over and hook up the cables to the m5's ENORMOUS battery in the trunk (those things are like a foot and a half long), but lo and behold, the m5 still won't start. Upon further investigation, he had no gas in his car, so we grab a couple gallons and fill er up. Still nothing.
So, we all break out the smartphones and start looking for a solution. We deduced that he probably ran out of gas while the car was still in gear (SMG), which either fried the fuel pump, the smg pump, or the smg control unit. Other symptoms included the shifter being locked up (possibly in Drive), even though the dash said it was in Neutral.
All of this took an hour+, so having made no headway he had to call for a tow, but at least it made for a good story and some good pics hehe
