quick cut from germany; my dad's old friend and his BMW.

went to a barbeque in Bad Waldsee, Germany today as a guest of my dad's old friend and co-worker who housed me for several weeks when i was thirteen. he and my dad are both 73, born only a couple months apart from each other and both worked over twenty years with Pan-American. This man's name is Detlef, and he owns an e36 325i convertible that he purchased new in 1995. he's only ever washed it by hand and it's never seen rain or snow. the odometer reads a staggering sixty-two thousand clicks, or roughly 38k miles.

i have driven porsches, e30 m3s, range rovers, etc. but i don't think i've ever been as nervous as driving his car today.

    detlef and his e36:

he let me drive to the store! under strict supervision, of course.

his son drives a 'heinkel' 200cc scooter from the 50's.

his other friend's garage has an 500SL (very uncommon in EU) that he bought new in 1992 for 80,000 euros, not including inflation.

A Heinkel, very interesting. He doesn't look 73, he's aging well.
