Shipping a Transmission?

This is for the guys that have shipped a transmission mainly but open to everyone elses comments.

Anyway i am trying to figure out how to ship a complete driveshaft, transmission and side skirts all the way to Pennsylvania from Washington state.

Can anyone give me a price quote?


Anyhelp will be appreciated.

im selling it all for like 400 plus shipping if you wanted to know.

Im looking at close to im guess 100 for the shipping but im not 100 percent sure.

How do i box up a tranny as in whats the best way.

transmission:

Buy a large "rubbermaid" style bin & lid that it will fit in. Dont get solid plastic, make sure you get the flexible kind that can withstand a beating. place tranny inside the bin, close lid. Wrap entire think in plastic wrap/clear packing tape. Ship it.

driveshaft:

Make an alignment mark on the 2 halfs, then take it apart in the middle. Now you have 2 halfs that are much more shipment friendly. Wrap them in bubblewrap/packing tape, find a box or several boxes that work (or make your own from a appliance box) and ship it.

sideskirts:

See driveshaft, sans breaking them in two.

My local appliance sale outlet knows me well, they are cool with me dumpster diving in their cardboard only dumpster. Large fridge boxes can make a box for just about anything else.

Rubermaid just like jordan said, but $100 is way too much the getrag 260 only weighs 95lbs. shipped. it was only $75 shipped across country.

Make sure you pack that thing in there GOOD. Get an old blanket that you or your parents don't give a rip about, and wrap it in that, and then stuff the tub w/ newspaper and bubble wrap. Something that large and that heavy, they won't ship it if there's any kind of shifting going on. Also, drill two holes in each of the handles (through the lid handles AND the tub handles) and put a heavy-duty zip tie through each one and cinch it down tight. This will keep the lid on better. Go FedEx Ground, should cost you about $45-65, depending on destination.
