    How to remove these without breaking them? Hood insulation rivets



    I broke a few today and am a bit pissed. Any suggestions?

      Matco sell a set of pliers for just that. There are two in the set and it runs around $40.

        Those plastic parts are +20 year old and were in a hot environment. Expect them to break and have new ones on hand for re-assembly.
        The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

            I got all of mine out with a small screwdriver without breaking any of them.

              Well I pried a few out with a screwdriver, but I am confused. It seems whoever put them together did it wrong because both parts of the rivet are on top of the insulation...?

                That is correct. The middle part of the rivet expands the shaft to lock it in place. Don't split the top two pieces.

                  Pry up with a screw driver and then pull off with needle nose pliers. That's how I do it anyway...

                          ...and the centers unscrew on the factory pieces. Mine pop right out once I unscrew 'em.

                              I was refering to sandwiching the hood insulation between the 2 top pieces, not taking them apart.
