This. The shop I worked at this summer had one come in. The interior was falling apart and only like half of the electronic stuff worked right.

What about an e38 with a 6 speed swap? The automatics go out often enough that a nice one could be found for a decent price with a blown transmission. I've seen threads before where the swap has been done.
What it feels like owning an e30:

one is a reasonable commuter car. An e30 barely qualifies as it gets 25 mpg on a perfect day. An accord is perfect.

Now from there branch out to a 911 or something stupid. jaguar, sport bike. 4wd nerd truck. Something really specialized that gets low miles put on it.

Now a fourth car could be another specialized car.

Now often one of the specialized cars takes over one of the practical car spots. For instance my superior nissan truck that never broke down in 4 years, got replaced by a 21 foot toyota dolphin. not because its reasonable, but it does fill the truck spot.

but when you end up with a jeep and a porsche 911 and nothing reasonable you forgot the basics.
IMO an LS1 xk is practial. I would get quiet and compliant ride which my e30/tj/r1 can't offer. Guys run ls1 camaro's and firebirds to over 150k. I can walk into any autozone and buy a coil pack alternator valve cover etc. Huge aftermarket, easy to boost power.

e38 is super mundane. I'd sooner get the 540 and that's a no way. That being said I did love seeing the manual e38 statham drove in the transporter

I had the basics covered way better 3 years ago with a truck and a sentra.

My cars are getting older and worse gas mileage now with the e30 and the dolphin. But If I didnt have something halfway sporty, Id have to have a sentra and then a miata or something dumb.

but thats where I have to be with two. I need truck and camping, car and sports car.

whenever I have 3, one is for sale. It just immediately is a peice of crap id never use.

Most of its life my e30 was like that but at the moment I also have a 96 camaro that just sits.
not to say its not a reliable car it just gets lousy gas mileage and its top speed is rarely exciting to me anymore. Its also an auto

Bruh wtf. Having more than 2-3 cars is a bad idea.

Finally found a what I was looking for. Bought this today. It wont be here for about 2 weeks.

                    Seller photos:

Hopefully it'll be up and running by summer, not even going to get started until spring.
All kinds of ideas going through my head, I think want to kit it:

The front of that kitted one looks so awesome, like an Aston Martin. The rear looks funky though, something about the tail lights doesn't sit right.

Edit: The molded in Arden tail lights are boss.

^ yeah, do the Arden tail lights/trunk spoiler and the aforementioned front valance and hood. it'll look sick.

also, for an even more budget-minded swap, look into the l33 motor. it's basically a baby ls1; all aluminum, and with an ls6 intake, aftermarket cam/springs/etc, and tune you'll still be pushing 300+ whp for nearly half the cost of an ls1 or ls2.

What did you end up paying for it if you don't mind me asking? I've been looking at XK's for a while now and it seems if you pay less then 10K it's going to be garbage.
