Help with pricing... (sorry if this is the wrong area)

So I am looking to get into my first E30. I have been searching for a while now (several weeks along with searching some last year) and I can't seem to find any consistency in pricing.

So I was hoping people would help me with getting a good bargaining point to start with some potential cars.

First car im looking at has 5 lug swap. E36 wheels. M3 brakes and front suspension. A good amount of suspension upgrades and fixes. Its missing some interior and has pretty bad paint. And will potentially need some body work. Stock motor and transmission(1990 325 coupe)

Would I be a low balling D-bag offering 3k? (I can afford more but I am also not willing to overpay)

What do you guys expect to pay for a decent running E30 coupe 88-91? I don't need pristine. Just a decent starting point.

    Post a link.

The key to pricing is partially geographic and partially demographic. Enthusiast tend to ask more for their cars as they know what they can be sold for. I bought my vert from a guy who wasn't into cars so got a good deal compared to one i could have picked up off here. Of course my car had a broken odo, dead obc light, etc (little things an enthusiast would have fixed)

The other half is geographic. Down here in FL they don't seem to sell for a premium. But in Cali and in New England they go for a lot more.

    So ya, it varies

bowtie is right on the geographic part. Here in the rust belt, a rust free e30 would sell for a premium compared to a cali rust free e30. I think very clean rust free e30s in tri-state area goes for about 3500+ easy
Had a smooth purchase transaction with me?

Thanks that helps. I will try and get a link up.

Its a southwest car. no rust. Question. Does the metal panel that spans the under the tail lights and up to the liscense plate replace easy or is it a cut and weld procedure? (I should probably post that in the cosmetic section)

cut and weld. It is a part of the unibody.

Other than the 5 lug swap, its nothing special. Bad paint, bad interior, eta and needs welding. Personally I wouldn't give more than 2.5 for it.

                    Yes it is a 325i.

Would 3k to 3.5k be a fair price for the car?

                      meh...

                      How much is he asking?

All the mods in the world don't make up for poor maintenance, extensive body damage etc...

always be a lowballing dirtbag. e36 wheels are cool

most cars go for 1500 or less so maybe offer 2k and youll be the biggest cash offer he gets.

He is asking 4900 but at that price will throw in an M50 (not in the car). I don't really care about the M50.

Clapped-out ones on Craigslist that need work go for $1500 or less. Well-kept enthusiast-owned examples go for $3000 and up.

Sounds like a decent list of upgrades, though only pics of the car will allow folks to tell for sure what they think it's worth.

ya that does sound nice with coilovers. still no idea really without pics.

ya 3 might be the highest cash offer he gets.
