late model shell and M50 found

A guy I know asked me to come over today to check out an "84" 325is he got for cheap with no key no title, and a "worked over" M50 with trans, DME, harness etc...

Well the car turns out to be registered as a 1983 318i/a, but it is clearly a plastic bumper, 5 speed, large tail light, airbag equipped 325 with a trunk spoiler and sport interior.. looks like a legit 325 IS but a non legit set of VIN numbers. they even managed to get the door jamb placards from the 318 installed with them looking stock..

the car has some rot and dents in the rear valance but otherwise it seems pretty solid, a good shell for a track project or to replace a wrecked car (?) I might buy it to use the motor for a car at work that blew a timing belt.

The m50 looks like a stock 2.5 motor with headers on it. the guy says he pulled it from a wrecked car that was being used for drifting. nothing besides the headers looks high performance to me.. they even have the stock style trans and motor mounts, grease all over the block, etc... but he claims to have a folder somewhere with build specs and says the car used to light up the tires up through 3rd gear. i would prefer a 2.8 if im going through all this swap work, but if it really does have all this performance work done internally, I would love to get the engine for a swap into my E30.
the price is very cheap, so i might have to buy it even if it is stock, just to resell it for a profit. Hes giving me the DME trans, harness, etc..

So... after ripping the motor out of this thing, would anyone on here be interested in a title-less body? ill get pics if wanted.

i do have an m20 with a blown head gasket that was pulled from my old car

      you can

apply for a title if you know the name of the last registered owner of the FAKE vin.

Or let me put it this way, so as not to suggest anything illegal.

You can get the title for the vin plate that doesnt belong on the car by doing a title transfer from the previous owner to you, and having a signed application for lost title. And a signed bill of sale.

seeing as its a peice of crap I would not see why you would do this but just letting that out for academic purposes.

its worth taking the fenders and wheels off and leaving.

The people he got it from went to jail for fraud so getting a title is impossible Haha, unless I file through the dmv. Were buying the car for parts and scrapping the shell. Our metal guys don't care about titles

You can scrap it in NY without a title, you just have to have the reg and your license. Done it with a few of my older beaters.

Scrapping with out a title is easy. Just cut the car up. Know someone with a plasma cutter? Now it's even easier.

would it still be legal to turn that shell into a track-only car?
