purchasing a 318is, what to expect?

Heading up to norcal to purchase a 91 318is.

Only service records I have are new cat.s Car passed smog easily.

Paint is fading but intr. is clean and the engine bay is rather clean for 187k

I head up from socal in a week. What should I ask the owner/look for? What price range would be good for this?

Thanks! Looking forward to a nice e30 DD

expect lots of smiles and giddy laughter while driving it.

But seriously. If it is truly clean and running well I would say top dollar $3000 would not be outrageous for that car. Obviously try and get for as cheap as possible but $2000-$2500 would be a decent deal IMO.

Even with 187k and fading paint?

Car has no body damage and no signs of it (paint is faded all around lol) so that, the engine bay, and interior are still positive. I did notice the antenna did not work, and the passenger window switch appeared to be out.

^ This. 2200 is a great starting point. Maintenance is really important on these cars ... check to see if the cooling and timing systems have been updated at all. If it wasnt then it can be a significant first expense.

Also: www.m42club.com has a lot of great reference specific to this car. You'll want to do the mess under the intake too if this car has not been owned by an enthusiast.

hit me back if you have questions ... I bought my 318is for 1500. It had similar miles and some cosmetic issues. A clean 318is with no issues can easily fetch 4 - 5k depending on it's location.

            Thanks, sent a PM.

Id like to DD as my e46 is more of a money pit love affair than a DD :(

Although if I could flip it down the road that's a plus.
