I don't understand the asslicking of everyone on that forum.
I'd guess none of those people have ever seen a european 3 cylinder engine. You can obviously tell the sound is made by carefully tuning the exhaust. It's when it idles (and they cut the video) that these things sound like a shitty diesel with fuel problems.
The excessive engine vibrations in 3 cylinder engines are a known cause to many of their problems. All of the current 3cyl engines are slightly more efficient than 4cyl, but only in the city. When you get out of the city and need power, you have to stay in the high revs and that equals much higher consumption. You can easily get only half the usual mpg by just hurrying to work. Thus women and old people usually drive them, because everyone else's "spirited" driving is as costly as driving a V/R6 with the obvious disadvantages.
Interestingly enough though, that horrid trembling turns into a much better sound above 4Krpms.
