    Transmission change.

Im looking to buy my first e30. And everything on it is good. Engine was rebuilt 3,000 miles ago. But the only thing is that I would need to replace the tranny. He has a new one and if I get it Hes asking $1000 for the car and the tranny. Is it worth it and is it hard to replace.

Sounds like a good deal to me as long as the motor runs fine. Go for it.

replacing the tranny should take a day if you have a bentley manual, and somebody who knows how what they are doing. Having a variety of socket extensions and u joints is necessary for reaching the bolts at the top of the bellhousing. You will also need a cheap set of external torx sockets to remove the transmission bolts.

1k if the motor runs is an excellent price

auto or manual? i'd hate to change an auto one unless i intended to do a three pedal swap. then i'd negotiate a price sans trans.

Indeed I didn't consider that it may be an auto. If it is, I would suggest swapping to manual (somewhat expensive to do, and more work than just changing the trans) or looking around to try and find a car with a manual box already.

For a $1k hell yes I'd buy it. That car looks clean too.

same work and roughly the same cost if you're willing to shop around.

Id be careful, because you dont know if the engine has a gremlin that only shows while under load sort of deal. Main reason I always shy away from broken cars. If you cant hear it accalerating, at highway speed etc use that as means to push the price down further.

It only took me one 3/8 u-joint on every inverted torx and starter nuts:up:
