I think you should find a cheap'o m20 and build it. Might be cheaper on your part.

I work at a bmw specialist garage we have purchased many engines from there with no problems at all.

I have looked at Peninsula BM webpage before, I needed a fan clutch for the M42 they quoted me $280 for a second hand jobby, that put me off as I bought a brand new one for like $80 shipped from pelican parts. Maybe ill have to give them a go again sometime.
