Only the Alpinas were automatics (2003-2005), the original Z8's were all 6-speeds.

I know, but again: why the fuck would the ALPINA be an automatic? I swear to God BMW makes some of the most boneheaded design decisions at times. What the fuck were they thinking?

ya there's a few here in SF - silver and black.. very easy to spot with the super clean rear end and led-esque tail "line". GF is always like ooooo - what's that? when I tell her its a 15 year old bmw, she always remarks how it looks better than the brand new bmw's.
