Anybody know much about this generation MR2? I've read some of the original reviews and it seems to have been a good fun car for its time. Been thinking about another project to keep my e30 project company in the garage.
What do you think of this MR2?

I'll post this one, too, even thought it's a fwd Celica. My first car was a '87 Celica GTS, which I learned how to drive a stick on. Awesome car except for the rust, very fast.

first gen mr2's are underpowered race cars when done right.
same people who got me into e30's have one and man it is fun to ride in! if it wasn't so riced out its worth it.Comment

arg, i can't stop browsing CL, I want to find a cheap, fun car to have as a backup/project. I always look at these and think, "I wonder how hard it would be to swap to rwd..."

Dang, that Acura would make a great winter beater, and the price is right too. And that wing would give me great traction in the snow!!!

Always wanted an MR2 turbo 2nd gen. Only Toyota car. I would buy other than the supra of course, or Toyota pickups with 22R's, which I need to start working on mine :-)Comment

I've always wanted an AW11 (First gen MR2) and a supercharzed is even better! If I remember correctly, they get to 60 in about 7 and a half seconds (Motortrend video or something said 7.7) and they're mid-engined and small, weighing about 2200 lbs stock so they handle quite nicely. I would own one right now if it were at all a practical only car to have, but I have five bowling balls I need to cart around three days a week so the minuscule trunk and not much bigger frunk (front trunk) wouldn't cut it. I would be wary of the swapped engine and look at MR2.com for the "What to check when buying an MR2" thread so you know the common problem spots. (Can't find the link right now, but I could have sworn there was a thread about that.) Here's one from a different site: http://www.challoner.com/mr2/tech/mk1bg.html
