Posting this in the wrong place in hopes of getting a quick response tonight. I need to drive about 100 miles tommorrow, but just today I noticed a slight whirring noise when I depress the clutch pedal that stops immediately when I release the pedal and the clutch engages. Obviously I will get it checked out soon, but is there likely any danger or major problems in driving it a bit in the current condition. The clutch feels fine, the only sign of a problem is that whirring noise when it is disengaged. Thanks in advance for any input.

Sounds like your throw out bearing is on the way, uh, out. Mine made the same noise as yours for a few months and a thousand or so miles. You *should* be fine but make sure to have a back up plan if it does take a crap on you. I was able to drive mine fine even when the throw out bearing was seized, just not a nice sound and not recommended.318is -gone-

Is there any vibration in the clutch pedal when the pedal is depressed? If so, it's the throw-out bearing. You can drive on it for a pretty long time, so don't worry about it. Just replace it soon.Comment

if the slave craps out (after a month or so of starting to vibrate when pressed) you can't drive the car as it usually seizes.. sometimes making it impossible to disengage the clutch (ie put power to the wheels)
you should be fine though
good luck,
