    Weakest Points of Porsches?

When it comes to lines and curves there aren't many cars that can do what a classic Porsche does for me. Of course, everyone always talks about how unreliable they are, and you spend Monday through Saturday working on one to drive it on Sunday...

I'd like to know what areas of older Porsches are the most troublesome? Specifically late 70's 911's and 930's

I was looking to buying a late 70s early 80s 911sc for a while , all the 911 guys a talked to said that those are pretty much bullet proof if they are cared fore correctly , also if they are one there original clutch tit need to be replaced because some 3.0 liter cars had problems with bad clutches, heres some interesting info

That generation is good, but they require frequent maintenance and valve adjustments which can get expensive if you're not down for doing it yourself, and DIY is not the easiest thing on a 911.

The engines are also prone to oil leaks.

They have the most diverse and expensive oil leaks in the automotive world.

So are the engines the weak points?

How does the suspension hold up, and is it pretty expensive to keep the suspension maintained?

suspension holds up well. but very expensive because its a porsche.

i drove a friends 1971 porsche 911 with sticky tires and Von racing coilovers which are very expensive... Handled like a dream, smooth almost no body roll, it felt very very tight, it was just a awesome experience

I dont like the pedal placement and the general feel of the body going through twisty roads.. I prefer my front engine rear drive E30 any day..

I think the jettronic injection can be troublesome.. I messed around with an '82 for a while to get it to run right. ..youre talking late 70s though and I dont know when they switched from carbs to injection

Porsche's are fun an all, but that feeling is soon silenced by the constant maintenence; Expensive maintenance at that.

IMHO, they may ride and have nice sounds and such, but I just cant' get over that terrible interior layout of the dash.
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

The terrible dash layout with the large tach right in the middle? Seems perfect to me.

The parts are more expensive than E30, but if you do your own work its not too bad. The '84-'89 3.2 liter 911 is Motronic just like E30 and very durable and simple.

The gearboxes are slightly unusual and not bulletproof through '86. The 3.2 engine had valve guide issues (wear) but otherwise will go a long time.

Sometimes it can be a little difficult to drive safely with all the flying panties.
