Exactly, I got pulled over last summer doing 90 in a 45 in my ram(on a deserted highway at 2am) against my buddies e30 cabrio. When the cop walked up to my window he said, "now, im supposed to arrest you and tow ur truck since you were doing more than 40 over, BUT i really like this truck AND you were racing the same e30 i had when i was 16. So next time just go to the track"
I walked away with a $250 fine and 8 hours of community service...:p

yeah, that 5.8 is supercharged. put 12 psi of supercharger pressure on that 6.2 and see what you come up with. probably 750-800hp, especially with direct injection.

It's only around a 378 cubic inch. And seeing that they have made a 400ci small block in the past, the 378 is not that big if you think about it.

As for the LT1, Yes it came out in 1970 (LT-1). It was a bad little mother fucker! It lasted till 1972 when the muscle car market basicly died. It came back out in 1992 (LT1), it was a reverse flow cooling sytem engine, it had one of the best flowing intakes GM ever put on a small block but it had the opti spark ignition system. It lasted till 1997. Ive had a couple of the LT1s. Not bad little engines, even with the opti spark. My current is a LT1 383 stroker. But it looks like they brought back an old name. Why? i don't know. I think i would of left it dead. But people like the retro thing now days. And IMHO, i think they need to drop the liter crap and start to call them by their cubic inchs.

As for the typical pushrod hating, GM knows their push rod engines. So why fix something that isn't broke?

why is everyone dispointed? 450 hp is plenty to have fun and get 26 mpg if you go light on the pedal but then again i rather get 20 mpg and squeeze out more hp lol dam i just went against what i said..... *sigh*

Because there are TONS of other manufacturers with small v8s that pump out that kind of power and that kind of efficiency. (Can you sense my sarcasm?) And I mean packaging-wise small. Because amazingly, the gen3/4/5 motor crams more cubes into a smaller footprint than about every other mass produced motor out there. Blind hate much? Ford finally got it right with the coyote motor but that was at least 15 years of dragging feet in the horsepower numbers.

I thought the cool thing about GM V8's was their capabilities? Isn't it easy to slap on oodles of more power with just simple bolt-ons? Not only that, but their reliability after being heavily modified?

The power potential is there. However, with how locked down this ECM is, it might be a bit before aftermarket parts and tuners can take advantage of that power.

I like how they comepare it to the BMW M5 engine saying the LT1 is smaller and lighter. But say nothing about hp/lt or the fact that the BMW engine has great MPG.

Ithor way they need to move on from the pushrod. If they do not do it in the next revision I think they are going to be left behind, with variable valve timing, lift and soon camless valves GM is going to face a tuff time trying to sell a V8 to the general consumer.

Granted they have massive optentual for modification, and great aftermarket support. But with all the emission regulations these days they are walking a thin line.

GM has been cranking out badass LSx engines for the last 14 years and all of the sudden you guys are hating on them? Kudos to Dodge and Ford for FINALLY catching up but I'll stick with the Chevy engine myself. As said above 450hp out of the box with 25+ MPG isn't exactly all that bad.

It's 2012, 26 mpg highway is terrible by today's standards.
Pushrods, 2 valves per cylinder, huge displacement. GM is still living under a rock.
