I'm planning on bringing a car back (E30 Touring) in March/April of 2013.

    A) 25 years or older, goes by build month/year, don't go 24 1/2 otherwise you are paying federalization fees and/or customs storage fees
    B) Shipping is expensive, RORO from the United Kingdom to the West coast is $2500, East coast is around $1500. Have not looked at Germany as I plan to road trip around Europe in said car. Shop Around..
    C) You need a customs broker to handle the paperwork
    D) Its probably not worth the hassle unless you really want a perfect car.
    E) Find someone over there to help. I've been talking to 2 folks to help me out.

I'm budgeting $10,000 to find a touring and bring it back. Most are rust buckets and the typical clean ones are 316's and made ~20 years ago (in my research as well)

Too bad that doesn't apply to California smog since we are apparently "special".

This is the one good thing about Canada... their car import laws are substantially more lenient than ours.
