the AMG CLS55 makes me want to convert. I have wet dreams about that fucking car.

If it were offered in a manual transmission - I'd be a Daimler guy.

let me get this straight - you got a record deal for 4.5 million dollars per year (congrats) and you want to know what the people on r3v have to say about what you should buy in the BENZ category.... thats completely stupid... find the MBUSA website... answer your own questions... no one here has any first hand input for what you are asking, we're all just reading the #'s from road tests like you are and adding personal opinion.... go check out player magazine and they will pimp your ride... i might be missing the point but damn... if you can make 4.5 mill a year don't ask opinons, do whatever the fuck YOU think is the best, not what people think is bad ass... you're a multi-millionaire.. who gives a fuck what other people suggest or think?

                    cheers,

[edit: yo, I think the dude was kidding about the advance (which is what a record deal is, btw)...]

I think there are a few model years of the SLK (the little convertible) that have a manual transmission.

Most of the automatics are passable. These cars are really set up for highway driving, so you don't really miss it. I used to drive a 1996 C280 sport (company car) and it was very very solid on the highway, geritol inducing otherwise.

A client had an AMG C32 (supercharged V6) ...I drove it once, it would be my pick I guess. You see them for sale every once in awhile at pretty reasonable prices. I would also say, on average, M-B owners really baby their cars compared to other marques.

just don't buy a benz if you're a real "driver" or car aficionado

                          Benzes are German Buicks.

benzs are autobahn burners, nothing else. If you want handling keep it bmw. One thing to remember with mercs and manuals, if its got an amg badge, it wont have a manual. Currently mercedes gives you a 6 speed manual in any car that has the 3.5 6 engine. Meaning the E350 has it, and probably the fastest, best to drive car with that engine and a manual would be the slk350. F1 nose, and pretty fun to drive. Check out top gear or 5th gears review of the car (racingflix.com or I think finalgear.com). But after your driven the benz, do yourself a favor and buy a bimmer!

Edit: if I was considering a slk350 Id either A)wait for the new M Z4 or B) get one of the last years of the M roadster, 320 hp oh baby!

                                haha

No, I'm not making 4.5 million a year, and I certainly won't be buying a Benz anytime soon, LOL. I was just hoping for some quick thoughts coming from real people who, since I assume most of us are general car enthusiasts, would know a thing or two about them.

I'm trying to write a screenplay and needed to figure out exactly what Benz (actually, engine and tranny) belonged in it. I was having trouble elsewhere so I decided to post here... Sorry if I wasted your time.

R3V, a brave new world of assumptions.
