Shipping a car

I'm looking into shipping a car from Illinois to California for my dad. I already used the search and found a few decent threads on companies and such but they were a little old. Does anyone else have a company you recently used and would recommend? Thanks for the help guys.

Not terribly recently, but I've used Intercity Lines before for two racecars. They always seem to have really valuable stuff on board, and reliable. I know they've been suggested before too...

not sure what company you should use, but I used a company out of Chicago to ship my 55 Bel Air (was Bulgarian owned/run company out of the NW suburbs).

pieces of shit people crashed my car (bent up front bumper and valance), ripped off the headers/exhaust and put the fan through the radiator while breaking a motor mount trying to get the car on some piece of crap farm equipment trailer.

they then stole about $4000 worth of crap out of and off of the car.


so, don't use that company--- I have no idea what the name of the company is anymore though.

Montway is just a broker. They dont actually ship cars, they contract shipping companies to do the actual shipping. I have used them once and I had a good experience.

Intercity is top notch if you don't mind the cost.

I've been relocated twice at this point, and both times my E30 was carried by DAS. Fairly large brand and I think I can recommend them.

Philly to Portland OR was open carrier and the car made it fine, I even covered the dash, stuffed the car with tools, exhaust, and took off my iS lip and put that inside as well. They ask not to but I was in a post-swap jam and took my chances.



The car, of course, was freaking filthy after that journey, and considering I thoroughly cleaned and touched up the bay last year I asked for enclosed carrier from Portland to Mass a few months back. Much better, though somehow there was evidence of being a little splashed like through a parking lot that sketched me out. No issues found and zero miles added so I can't really complain. My employer covered the cost so I can't comment on that but to my knowledge they're fairly competitive (I've shopped in the past when looking at cars from long distance).

Whatever company you end up using, just please, please stay away from the one VLAD used to ship Yan-3's car. :hitler:

Thanks for all the help guys, I got a few bids from companies on uship and I've been calling around. This is for my dad and he's shipping his e38 and 76 vette out here to me. Intercity is about 3k and I'm getting bids off uship for about 2400. I'll probably chose one sometime today.

I understand the budget thing, I went the cheapo route when I brought my car home from PA.

You definitely get what you pay for with Intercity though!

Yeah I talk to them for a good 15 minutes on the phone, very professional and a closed trailer as well. I believe that's who my uncle used when he shipped my dad a few cars years back. Both the cars are pretty tired and need some work so I don't think he's to concerned about having a closed trailer. I'm just excited to get the e38 running so I can daily it lol.

Just be careful with UShip, do your homework on the shippers.

We use Rite Way Auto Transport to ship some of our bikes. They are a Penske Approved company and ship a lot of cars. Ive never had an issue with them. One carrier did scratch a guys windshield and they called me right up and ordered a new one.

You can give Pete over there a shot and see what he can do, no idea what car prices typically run these days. He is a little high on bikes but they get moved quick. PM me if you want his info.

You could always just get a one way ticket and drive back. Probably would be a way cheaper. Plus you get a epic road trip.
