    E30 - E34 parts compatability

I'm getting a g260 this weekend, from a guy that deals mostly in E34s, and was just wondering if there are any 5 speed swap parts that I could use from an E34 on a '87 325e.

      E34 5 series stuff, not E46 3 series stuff.

Mostly like pedal boxes and cross members things of that sort.

I was hoping that someone else had already done all the research for this.
          I'll get digging soon then.
And post what I come up with if anyone else cares.

            Well, I care!

I am planning on attacking my '91 E34 fairly soon, as I have a cubic fuckton of E30 shit and I wanna make it work in an E34.

            here is the plan: M54B30 > E30 G260 > 3.46LSD

            Closing SOON!

I can't find anything about that motor/trans step up anywhere. So, you could get a different trans, or just try to slap them together.

But all I found so far was this:

              08/88-525i-07/86-325e
              Clutch disk-21211223097
              Spring Clip-21511204327
              Clutch Release Bearing-21517521471
              Clutch Rel. Fork Lever-21511204229

I had a feeling it would just be the smaller parts that would be interchangeable. But I did only look at one year of the e34.

First, I don't "slap" anything together...I do shit proper, or I don't fuck with it.

So, that being said, the E30 G260 bolts up to the M54 just fine, as hundreds of other guys have done. I like the clunky feel of theG260 versus the G250 or the ZF. Plus, they both have a 1:1 final drive and I want a proper overdrive.

I will likely get to make up my own driveshaft, but I have a few e30, e28 and e34 driveshafts, so I should be able to get it together sooner or later, I ain't too worried about that. I will fabricate my own transmission mounts and likely the shifter carrier mounts too...but since the only G260 that came in the E34 is the one that came behind the M20, that should not pose much issue...but since the G260 is the only transmission that fits that bellhousing that has a proper overdrive 5th gear, that is what I will do, since it will match the torque of the 3 liter to a 3.46 diff perfectly, especially with the 275/35/18s that will go on it.

The exhaust will be custom anyway, but the stock would still fit.

My only real issue is wether or not the E34 will take an E30 pedal cluster.

If it won't, Justin can fabricate me something, all I have to do is make extra coffee.

                Closing SOON!

If E30 pedals work on an e34.. please oh please take lots of pictures!! Seems like those and driveshaft are the hardest e34 5 speed swap parts

I didn't mean do it poorly, I can tell you don't do things like that from your How-to's. I meant just try it. I had no idea that they fit together. I've never really done anything with an m54.

As far as the pedal assembly goes, they have different part numbers.
But the more I look at them the more I think they will fit.

Well, cool...I do get offended easily, don't I? Sorry, I don't mean to be an asshole, but it comes so easily to me.

Anyway, yeah, I poked around realOEM quite a bit on the driveshaft issue. Seems the M30 G260 uses the same Guibo as the G250 found in the later E34s. I have an M30 E34 manual driveshaft and I have a driveshaft that fits my buttery smooth E34 3.46LSD...but what happens in between is up for grabs.

The pedals do seem close enough to work, or mod easily enough to fit and fortunately I already have a manual transmission E34 (albeit a lame little M20 underhood) to compare to.

Lots of people have asked "why not just swap motors in that car"...which makes sense...but I want a goddamn cabin air filter, and that is something I do NOT wanna swap! The E34s have different features over all the years and I want the best of all of them. I want heated locks, mirrors and windshield squirters, I want underhood lighting, the cabin air filter, "full auto close" and all of the trappings of the last of the E34s: I want the wide grille and the interior beltline, (black on black with brushed aluminum trim) but I also want proper RPMs on the freeway for fuel economy...oh, I don't wanna buy anything either, so I am gonna use the stuff I already have.

                      Sound like a fun project?

That does sound like quite the project. A lot of work, no doubt. haha. Good luck with that.

I need to start getting my swap parts together. If you have a e30 drive shaft I can take off your hands, that would help a lot.

When I go get my trans on friday, if I have some time, I'll see if one of the e34 clutch pedals fits.

Unless you can try before I can.

Mine won't even start until spring! Any info you can share on compatibility would be wonderful. I also am down to trade E30 pedal stuff for E34 pedal stuff, if you know where to find one. I have 4 full E30 pedal boxes, but only 1 decent driveshaft, and that is being saved for the next E30...sorry!

So, the guy I got the trans from was kind of sketchy, and he didn't actually a pedal assembly that I could get my hands on for a test fit real quick.
                            Sorry about that.
I might hit you up for an e30 pedal assembly one of these days.
