Not sure if it is an M30 or not, but the AFM is on the opposite side of any small block 6 or 4 banger I've ever seen from BMW, so that seems like the most logical choice. I'm gonna have to drag that pic to some of the e21 forums....so we can see what e21's can become. Funny...I've measured the length of the block and the length of the e21 engine bay.....doesn't seem to be enough room for an M30 in there without cutting the firewall. Alpina had to do that to get the 745 motor in when they did stuff like that back in the early '80s. Too much work for me though....
BTW, for the US e21 a S14 or M42 would be a much better choice. The front subframes on our cars were for the four bangers, not the M20. You can swap in the subframe from a euro 323i or 320/6, but why when the M20 is heavier?
SOMEBODY messed with my sig so now you get this one:
The only BMW engine to have a AFM on that side is the M30, so it was my first choice, unless it´s somesort of turbo setup
M30 fit fine in E21´s in my town there is a E21 M30B28, 185hp, The guy said he didn´t have any problems, just put the engine in, then positioned it as well as possible and created motor mounts,
it runs better then a E21 with a 325i engine and a 323i(E21) l-jet system,
