Considering buying a 2013 Jeep Unlimited

Now that Chrysler has improved the engine and transmission, I'm strongly considering buying a new four door Jeep. The MSRP is $23,000 adding on a few options brings it to $26,000. Any one have any experience with Jeep Unlimited both with the old and new drive train?

Personally I would never buy a 4 door JK. Any other SUV pattern Jeep, that is supposed to be 4 door sure if I was looking for a beater back country rig. But a Actually Jeep pattern Jeep nope, I know they are capable off road but it kinda ruins the point of a jeep by lengthening the WB that much IMO. In all honesty I have been considering a parallel move in my line of work and a Jeep makes a right of way inspection rig.

Even with a new 3.6 L engine and trans, the gas mileage is still horrible. If you can put up with that then it is a fun vehicle to drive around, especially with the doors removed. I don't know how reliable the new engine is compared to the old 4.0L, but so far so good.

my moms chrysler has the same pentastar ( i think) v-6 as the jeep, her car only has like 7.5k on it but its already had a few recalls (mostly emissions related) but other than that it seems like a great power plant it moves my moms 4000lbs plus 300 rather quickly and on long trips it seems to get around 28mpg while cruising at 80 it seems like it could do better in a jeep because its lighter but i just don't know beyond that

The MPG does not discourage me. A truck this size and shape is to be expected. I've loved jeeps since forever but never could justify its size for my family. I think the pentastar engine is too new to review it's pros and cons.

Maybe a lightly optioned model is 26k, but not the Rubicon.

The new pentastar is an aluminum block and makes its torque too high for a true offroader. Hate to say it but the iron block van engine was probably a better fit. Honestly I wish they'd make a renegade again with a hemi!!!! Updated JK interior is nice though. When I buy my next wrangler it will be a jk, but probably not the updated one though. I'll deal with the 3.8 and eventually swap. Look it up its pretty common. There's evey lsx swaps in jk's. I'd love a jk with a 5.3 ls truck motor in it.

Edit: You'd save about $10k with an older one.

personally i think the 4 dook jk is the best idea Chrysler has ever had, the very sort wheel base of tj's and yj's made them a bit unpredictable off road thats why i have alway been an xj cherokee fan and the new 4 door jk is basically the closest thing you can get to an xj now. they are great and if you plan on doing light off roading it will do everything you need it to, buuuuuuuuuut they are 100% right they get terrible gas mileage i got 12 mpg in my xj, have you looked into the FJ toyota? they are pretty neat

That moab version looks pretty cool.
Personally, I'd like to save some bank, and do some work to it if I were to buy one.
I'd go for a TJ Rubicon Unlimited. They're pretty nice IMO.

Here is what you can expect for gas mileage...I don't think you will get anywhere near 28 mpg for a Wrangler.

Sold my FJ to buy my house. Great truck but the rear doors for occupants was not ideal.

I now drive a Cherokee sport with the bullet proof inline 6 4.0. I'm ready for something new again now that we are settled in our home.
