glove box stuck, which way is unlock

i cant get the glove box open and the bottom part seems to be off the hinges. Either way I turn the key it wont open but which way is open, horizontal or vertical? And anyone know how I can get this thing to open?

vertical i believe. not sure though, im on vaca and my e30 is 2k miles away

Open = horizontal
Locked = Vertical
I lock mine all the time.
