Im watching one of the episodes from 89. God cars were crap then, not just E30s. OMFG, Clarkson still looks goofy!

Back in the day, that was a totally different show. I watched an episode when they were making the change over to unleaded gas. Wow...

Yeah I just watched that. And CARB hadnt come into effect. And a statement about Bush senior wanting something like 40% of cars to run on clean fuels by 2000, dont think that happened.

I like how the one guy was bitching that one of the new luxo cars had replaced the ashtray with a new fangled CD player.

In all fairness though, judging by the cars they are reviewing on those episodes in 89 our cars must have been the cream of the fucking crop back then.

lol that first episode of 89 was hilarious. What you guys said, and then the usual clarkson wit and style, and ended it with some crazy driving by tiff. Just classic, dl'ing all the early ones! Lets find one with an e30!

Finding what they say about the E30 would be interesting but as a whole I dont like the early ones. No funny and they are reviewing cars that people in England actually buy. Fuck that, who wants to hear about a Volvo estate or a Yugo? Id rather hear about cars I cant just walk up to a dealer and drive on any given day.

The early Top Gear is really just Motor Trend TV for the UK in the 80s. It's very boring and not interesting.

^true, but at the end of the first episode clarkson and tiff did make their appearances and you could see they're characters. The second episode was awful. They always seem to compare 3 extremely boring cars. After that, they talked about the new miata (this is 89), and then the big lexus. Ill let you guys know when I find one with the e30..

I doubt if you will fine one in the compliation they have online. The Top Gear episodes from the 89-91 period spend half the time talking about Jags and the other half talking about really shitty family cars. The only E30 that would be "new" would be the Evo M3s and those look to be outside their radar for that time.

Your best bet would be to find a car show from 1982-83 showing the first ones.

the entire first season was awful. Im starting to watch the 90 season and its not any better. Clarkson was only on episode 1 of 89. Tiff makes his appearance once in a while and drives a race car like a madman but its funnier when he takes out a real everyday car and thrashes it (which doesnt happen on these early episodes). And yeah, they either show you some old british cars, or super boring cars we dont get in this country..

1991 episode 14 talks about buying a used e28 5 series, nothing that great, they take a 535 and go 130+ mph..

1991 episode 4 mentions the e30 and then drives and shows the new (at the time) e36 3 series. Otherwise the episode talks about old racing cars and tiff drives some sort of mini-formula things from ford, renault, lotus and a few other companies in the wet..

otherwise ive watched all the episodes from 89, 90 and 91 and the e30 is never shown..
