Along with the typical old movie tickets, sticks of gum, and <$1 worth of loose change, I found a plastic container filled with a powder of unknown provenance in the HVAC ducting that runs from the heater core, under the drivers seat, to the rear seat footwell.

A couple years back I bought a mk1 GTI for $1200.



1 owner car, gentleman passed away and some kid bought the car from the gentleman's wife. Sat in a garage for 2 years untouched. Kid's home for break from college and his dad says it has to go that week. As I'm picking it up the kid says "I got some windows for the car, you want them?" Um, sure.



Get it to the shop, beautiful rust-free gti! Next time my dad stops by he says "Oh, Bob's car." My dad used to auto-x with the guy back in the 80's. Find complete history w/receipts. Motor is built, all urethane bushings, suspension, etc.

Best part: we have 3 of these sets of windows. About a week after I bought it I pull them out, read the tape and type "Happich" into vwvortex classifieds and ebay.



Damn things are worth about $1200 a set! Happich were aftermarket pop-out rear glass, (think e30 couple rear glass) where the factory glass was fixed. 2 sets were new in box, I left the third set on the car. Sold the 2 sets for $2000! Some guys were using e39 door seals to replace the window gaskets when they rotted out. Had an e34 540 parts-car a couple bays over!
