I honestly have no idea. I think I must've seen enough of them on the road and decided that it was a good-looking car (it isn't) and that an E30 seemed like a good idea (it wasn't). Test drove a '91 318i in '05 before I bought my MR2, then ended up buying an '89 325i in '08. Sold it after 5 months and looked for a 318is on-and-off for a few years. Finally found one and it's been a PITA ever since! Sure are fun to drive, though.

My brother had one a long time ago and I remember it being really cool. Way better than any of those FWD hatches that paved the roads.

Add to that the amount of DTM races I watched, and had to get one.

I was sitting in my dorm room one day and looked out the window and saw a zinno e30 drive by and then thought I wonder what one of those cost? I explored craigslist but found nothing I liked then I stumbled upon r3v and got hooked. Creeped on here for about a year until I got serious and made an account. I figured I'd sell my jeep and pick up a decently set up e30 and then I stumbled upon trent's car and knew I wanted it. Sold my jeep and picked it up. I've always been into bmw's since my dad has a 97 740il. I wanted a e46m3 for years but once I drove my buddies it wasn't like my e30. I think I made the right choice. ;)

This thread delivers. I remember sitting in the Marine barracks in Camp Pendleton in 1991 reading a car and driver report on the changes BMW was making to their cars. Back then I thought "Who freaking cares!" Fast forward 20 years later I'm looking to own my first BMW and the advice I received from my 40+ year BMW mechanic/CCA member was to check out E30's. Once I drove a 318is I was hooked. Passed up a really nice example because it was too expensive (so I thought) and bought a beater ... now after 3+ years of ownership I wouldn't have done it any other way. Last year I bought my wife a 'vert and we're looking for a 318i for my 15 year old son!

Well i have always given lot of respect to rear wheel drive and big engines. My e30
fanatic started after i bought my first e30 from Germany. I have always like oldies,
specially car with chromed bumbers, they just give me so nostalgic feeling. My
own ix was just lucky to found. I also bought mk2 escort, because we have had some many escort as folk racecar. Here is my escort, my bmw you can find from project forum ;)

Mine started around 10 yrs ago, a friend own a 318is, mtech2 kit & 17" wheels. One day I had to put my car in the shop for repairs. He was on holiday so I borrowed his E30 for a week. Since then I always wanted one, but like many things in life it took a back seat & forgotten. Some years later I accidentally found a picture on the internet, an E30, re-sprayed, 17" & M3 engine from an E36. Suddenly the desire to get one came back! I found more tricked out E30s & became more fascinated.

At this point I own an E92 335, 19" wheels, intakes, etc. I was planning to sell the E92, get a decent daily drive & get an E30 for a project car. But, then again I thought to myself "I've spent money on the E92 & its fun to drive....the hell with this!" so about 3 weeks ago I purchased an 1990 E30 325i coupe.

So now I got the E92 & E30 sitting in my garage.

Sorta same deal with me. Started with an '84 eta, Elsa last year and woke up one morning 2 months ago that after sitting through 2 weeks straight of rain, the interior was moldy due to a defective sunroof seal (it wasn't being driven at all due to bad steering rack amongst other things). I had always been shopping around for a better car cause I like late models more, but after discovering that I was fed with all the money and time I had already and was about put into it. So that day I called a guy I knew and started the process of trading my car for his '91 318i alpine sedan that I had my heart on. Much better car and I drive it often. He sold the eta to another r3v'r who is in the process of restoring it faster than I have time to and loves it. The day I brought the new one home I knew it was the e30 I've been wanting to own ever since I got into them.

Family friend of mine had an E30 86 325eS plus they had a grey market 85 M5. Had lots of fun racing in our industrial park with great radius turns.

An old guy from the office bought a 86' in 89' from a friend. In 2008, he came to the office with it for a couple of days. I asked him if he wanted to sell it to me, he said yes...1 wek later I was taking it home. I never really E30 before I saw that one!

I always loved the look they have, been in the VW world for about 10 years and got bored so I sold my 1980 Caddy and bought one.

E30 is an awesome car !!
