...the OEM sunroof panel leaks, it just drains out the vents behind the rear bumper sides.
as long as it doesn't make noise at triple digit speeds, it sounds cool

I've pretty much lost any hope for them as well. Which sucks, because I was going to buy one FOR SURE when I got my car.

Tell us they are still going to be made, Shahe!

I'm about to finish up a mold for an e30 sunroof. I do work in the boating industry. I saw this thread and was curious.... I do alot of CF work, but with Masts and Booms.... I could probably whip out some CF sunroofs...

BTW... I am new here, so hello!!

DId you account for the shrinkage in the material. Sunroofs need to fit a lot better than hoods and such, let us know how YUOR mold comes out. Im still down for a sunroof if someone EVER makes any.

My God, didn't know you still cruised these parts. Good to hear from you Chris. Let me know how the car is going. I'm traveling for the next three weeks, but after then I"ll probably be emailing you with my progress on the car. Hope things are going well.

                    To the new guy:
I've been waiting for these CF sunroof panels, so if you do make them and fitment is perfect or near perfect, then i'll guarantee I'll be buying one.

When you say shrinkage on the part are you referring to final cure? Then yes. The plug that I used to make the mold from was a stock sunroof. Thus the mold will be bigger than the stock roof by a couple of mills. Using slow curing epoxy, low exotherm, you can minimize shrinkage/warping on parts. The biggest pain in the ass is the UV factors. CF breaks down if left unprotected. Hence the need for a clear UV gelcoat. I have been doing part that require very high tolerances (masts and booms for racing yachts), so I am used to all the extra work involved. Also, this part is so small compared to what I normally do - it is actually fun...... Try getting your first maxi yacht mast right... 80 feet 40 layer of pre-preg CF and vacuum bagged..... WHOA!!!

By the way... pricing for the sunroof you guys have been kicking around..... does the $250 include the sunroof seal? That is priced at about $115.00 online....

Honestly, if we could get a hood for $400, I figure a sunroof panel which is less than 1/4 the size of a hood, so that comes to $100. You figure in R&D costs on your part and I would think that the sunroof panel would only be $150-$175 max without the seal. Somebody correct me if I'm totally off.

HOLY SHIT, that must be quite a site. I dont 250 is TOO bad considering noone else makes them, and AFAIK the 250 price doesnt include the seal.
