Finally! A M20 vs M42 thread! I always wondered which was better, but no one has ever debated this before.Leave a comment:

because ignorant bubbas think they know better than BMW AG.
they could spend less time and money and buy e36 m3 and get way more car.
the e30 platform is a shitty, unsophisticated, seriously out-dated deathtrap.

Ah, isn't that because of the natural balance of a straight-6er though?
I can't attest to the buzziness, as I have to fix my drony ass exhaust to actually feel engine nvh :/Leave a comment:

buzzy meaning more vibration/NVH. And the M42 does have plenty of that. It makes my old M10 feel like a Lexus engine, lol. I personally like how the M42 kind of sounds like a Subaru. Could be because my DD is a WRX though....Leave a comment:

What does "buzzy" in reference to M42/S14's mean? I never felt that my M42 has anything "buzzy" about itLeave a comment:

the m42 is buzzy and doesn't feel like a bmw. yes its definitely fun ESPECIALLY above 4k rpm but it feels like a buzzy 4 banger. because it is.
m20 is much smoother and has a better power delivery. it also sounds better and feels classier.
neither is really a "performance" engine. an s50 swapped into an e30 is about as close as you're going to get to a fast performance e30.Leave a comment:
