That being said, you start your read at the tail end of 0:02 and only hit 65 at the tail end of 0:12

I can be generous and give you 9 seconds, but it is still slower than an m20. Sorry.
I'm also on 400lb studded snow tires on a winter day with a less than optimal launch and tire spin. Results woulda been different on regular tires.

either way, I've never smiled at my E30s with straight line performance lol, M42 or M20.

I get in trouble with my m10. m42 is a very very fun car too, my co-worker has a 90 4-door(about to get a hx40). Of course more power is more fun

This really sums it up for me^ m42 is not bad, but they are not as reliable as an m20. And still a bunch slower than a b25. My brother owns an m42 with 109k by now. Swapping for something with more power and better trq curve. Nothing wrong with his m42 5spd, personal preference.

You're obviously not reading between the lines

All I said was the m20 was faster, not better. I was correcting misinformation.
There's a reason I phrased it that way

*sigh* lots of misinformation here. Here's my 74k M42 stock doing 0-60 in what seems to be 7 seconds flat on studded snow tires (spin city). 10.1 seconds to 0-60? not even a 325e does it that slow..

And that same M42 got me a 138mph speeding ticket.
tl;dr, non-tired POS M42's are as fast as a B25, but the power band is completely different. The feel is completely different. I've owned many a 6'er E30 including a M50 swapped one, and only 2 M42's, and by far my M42 E30 is much more fun and enjoyable. but that's because I like easy-to-toss cars.

I love how you M42 guys tell yourself that, just like the 325i guys who say M20 cars are as fast as an M3...............
and what relevance does a good running M42 against a worn out M20 have anyway?

loose the trunk tar, a/c- which is not even on most euro cars, and the 5 pounds for the nicer/sound deadening carpet, and your basically at the same car/weight.

That a difference of almost 3 whole seconds, and realistically... That's alot

Dont get me wrong, a 318is is fantastic and I would love to own a bone stock one some day as a daily, but I don't understand your "just as fast as an m20" logic. The numbers have spoken and your information is clearly incorrect

I'm speaking mainly from my own personal experience after owning and driving both. I really didn't see much speed differential between the two engines. I know that that means really nothing. But I'm just throwing my experiences out there :p

Edit: I'm also with chugzz on this one. It's all about the feeeeeeel mann.

I think the point the op is trying to make is that the m42 is underestimated ?? I like the m42. I wouldnt trade it for an m5x swap, hell, I swapped it in place of an m20. Maybe Im biased... then again, its all about that feel bro, If you like m20 or m50 or whatever over m42 then cool, swap it out.
