    320i E30

Soo about 5 years ago i bought what i thought was a 84 grey market euro 323i.. Got it for a steal and noticed it was registered as a 320i and didnt think much of it at the time, then parked it to build some drift cars.. fast forward to now and i just got done converting it to late model 1.3 motronic and its running better than ever. Upon further inspection i found all the stamps and stickers on the car say its a 320, and the motor is definetly a 2.0 m20 not a 2.3. Pretty F'ing stoked because ive never really seen or heard of too many of these bad boys around..

Just wondering if anyone has any info on these things!?

    Stamps throughout:

    -Engine-
    320i - 20 be b
    139/1 - ABE NR 9637/2
    WBAAA310509527719

    -Door panels-
    WBAAA310509527719
    -S27719-
    Bayeische Motoren
    Werke AG W. Germany

Thanks and once i get some time i will take a few pics, nothing special yet but one day she will be a show queen!

I've got one! I quite like it.
Your VIN comes up as an '84 320i. Welcome to the world of Slow!

I spent today replacing my injectors (semi-unique) and rad hoses. The top hose had to come from Germany, where there were a grand total of four (4!) in stock.

    Still, unique is nice.

How did you convert to Motronic? Did that require a new flywheel, clutch housing and some pretty specific injectors?

there were millions of 320i's over here. yank it and throw a 2.5 in there. 129 hp- it is the 318is lame twin brother.

being an 84 is pretty cool though, and a euro car too!

Yep, as soon as the thrill of thrashing the B20 like I hate it just to keep up with traffic and the enjoyment of sourcing unobtainable historic parts are gone it's 2.5 time.

And an '86 originally sold in Yugoslavia isn't cool? :(
My car raises its lip at you.

HaHa yeah you guys are right it is pretty slow but since the motronic 1.3 upgrade it has woken up alot! But its my dd and i have a m5x swapped drift car soo it doesnt bother me one bit..

The swap wasnt that bad you basically need a late model 2.5 engine to steal everything off, luckily i had a toasted one laying around.

-Re-wire the late harness to the c101(my brother did this for me hes a sav)
-Swap out the dizzy with all the stuff from the 2.5 including the gear(direct swap)
          -Swap injectors and rail out
-Take the timing belt cover from the 2.5
-Swap dist cap and rotor over along with plug wires
-Swap late model alternator in otherwise there isnt two power sources and it kills your alternator(found that out the hard way)
          -Fire her up!!!

          Forgot to add:
-Intake manifold, throttle body afm, icv and airbox also need to be swapped for direct plug and play

And some other things i did is take the oil cooler setup from the stock 2.5 and i also ran the battery to the trunk to clean up the bay a bit.. Everything was a direct swap and super easy besides the wiring and i didnt even do that so i dont know the procedure..

Hmmm. I think I'll wait to swap in the whole 2.5 works, extra half litre and all. Torque is good. Rear trailing arms with North American disc brakes would be nice, too. I need a rolled 325 - anybody got one?

The 320i is too slow for a new driver, but the 325 is/was too fast. See upper picture, the kid in grey at the front of the 325is will be on my insurance soon enough.

Yeah i have a swapped rear subframe with discs and medium case lsd aswell.. Basically trying to get this car as close to a 325i without swapping the motor until it craps out.. then i dont know what i route id go, my brother always talks about m30 swapping ans that sounds super rad or maybe something super unordinary..

I will try to get some pics up tonight still a work in progress!

Been running pretty good, i still need to get the tach wired up and im slowly dialing in the injector size. Been switching out fuel pressure regulators between 2.5 bar and 3 along with eta injectors and 2.5 i injectors. Seams like the ecu/engine likes i injectors and the 3 bar regulator the best so far.

Need to clean her up a bit but its my daily and i dont think ill do much to it for a while, need to get some more power in my drift car like wooah!!

the blue 2.5 injectors are going to be a bit too large. the ECU for the 2.0 and the 2.5 are the exact same, the only difference was the injectors. I know there's a latemodel 320i touring in the stripping yard not to far from me, I can see if I have some time to try to grab them up.

The cars are fine, sitting wrapped up for the winter, getting no attention.
