im offset illiterate... is that the correct fitiment for our cars. for some reason i though 16's are between 25-30 for us98 M3/4/5

offset has nothing to do with wheel size, it has to do with wheel/tire overall width. 20mm offset will work fine on e30s, but you would probably have to roll the fenders if you wanted to run 225/45's. You can always run 215/45's, or even 205/45's. Maybe 215/50's? And all you would need are some tires and some hub rings.
