Why didn't Dodge do this with the Charger?

The "Charger" that Dodge just released is, at the very most, a souped up Magnum with the hatch chopped off. And I'm also pretty god damn sure that there was never a 4 door Charger. So after that nasty looking thing comes out, Dodge gets it right, with this:

The 2006 Dodge Challenger concept. Now THIS is a beautiful car, a total throwback to the Challenger of old, much like Ford with the new Mustang. So once again, I ask you. What was Dodge thinking? Why was this not the direction they went with the Charger? Instead of pure automotive art, like the car pictured above, we got a 4-door family car with a Hemi and a Charger badge! I mean, I love the new Challenger, I hope to god they go with that design. But why with the Challenger, and not the Charger?

They really did an exceptional job on this one, hate it won't be half that stunning when it finally reaches the dealer's lot.

Nascar fans that is, throw the SRT8 in and watch it fly off the showroom floors at 43k. Git Ur Done

that is HOT! I pesonally dont care much for dodge stuff, but that there i would buy!! see ya E46 touring. who needs 4 doors anyway.

that car looks way to much like one from the late60s-early70s- i bet too that it wouldnt look nearly that nice when it hits the ground. wouldnt be to hard for a fabricator to make one like that i bet.

I dunno man, I'll give Dodge props since the first Viper concept car came out, they have been one company that has stayed very close to concept in execution/production of their cars. It COULD happen.

LOL, and NO, there never was a 4 door Dodge Challenger Hemi. And you're right, that new thing is ugly as shit. WTF were they thinking with that anyway?

That almost looks like Foose got hold of a '70 Charger and Fooseified it.

                        that is freakin' hot.

btw i remember this concept from '99 that they called the charger, and i totally wanted to see it in production.

it never made it :\ but good call mr. wells, dodge/chrysler are definitely the brands that seem to stick to their concept guns the best

I remember going to Detroit to see that first Charger. Did you know it was made of recycled pop bottles? Seriously.
