Pick Your Part: Whats your best find??

Just wondering what cool stuff or cars people have run into at the yards.
Post up your pics and share your stories

Over the past 7 years I have run into some good stuff at the yards:

    E34 M5 kit x2

Euro E34 M5- whole car was for sale 106,000miles- bought it and drove it home

Several Euro e30s, bauers, coupes, 4 doors
    Euro goodies- valances, kits, grills
    ACS exhaust, supersprint, etc

Mtech 2 vert- white- took what ever was left

But the best one was this:

Friend of mine called me up and said that he spotted a old BMW with stripes and Spoke wheels with black centers, he didn't know what it was, thought it was a 7 series, non the less said it had Alpina sticker across both sides of the car- He told me it was at the Anaheim Pick Your Part. Showed up there at 7am the next day, and it turned out to be a 1980 blue Alpina B7 Turbo!!! someone already took the the motor, trans, and seats. The Staggered Alpina wheels where still on the car, extra Gas tank in the trunk, suspension, diff, and Rear euro bumper. I only had a screw driver and a lug Wrench! So the wheels, tank, and Alpina tag came home with me.

The Tag I ripped off the firewall on the pass side of the engine bay:

The car was the same color combo as the sample pic below:

I've never been to a "pick your part" I've been to a "pick a part" though, they didn't have anything good. There was two earlies, but that's about it.

The yards where I'm at are picked pretty clean. But i did score an early zender kit for $30 once.

Best thing I've found in my area was a very good condition black houndstooth sport interior. All the door panels were perfect, and the front seats had covers over them; only the driver's seat had a couple tiny flaws. It's one of those things I definitely regret selling, but at least I saved it from sitting outside in a Michigan scrap yard and rotting.

No, friend of mine who lived near that yard did, he was not really into other Bmws except for his e30. He told me he saw a strange looking old bmw and that the wheels on it that looked like the ones I had been looking for. Just dumb luck.

                  forgot to add:

We don't have pick a parts or similar operations here. Junk yards don't let you browse because of insurance regs. and probably fear of you stealing little shit. Prices are also a LOT higher than what you guys pay.

I paid $29 for the dash that went into Klaus. It's not perfect, but it's close. Out of that same car I got a complete black sport interior, most of which is in use now too. From that same yard I got his armrest/headrest rear seat, and also for $29. Pics of all in his build thread.

There is no way I can top an Alpina B7.

A friend called me a couple of years ago to tell me someone put BMW wheels at the dumpster of his apt complex. They were M System II, forged, with throwing star covers. 4 wheels and covers in great shape, tires were toast of course. I still owe him for that one.

....and you didn't go up there to offer scrap metal price for it?

I would have been trailering the whole shell out for use as something. Too cool to let die in a yard.

There's a guy about an hour from me who has a couple hundred BMWs in various states of disrepair and/or rot. One of them is a Hartge E32.
