Got a call from the girls insure yesterday, they are going to pay. They said they would pay me 1500 and total the car or give me 2k bc that is what the car is worth and take it, bc that was "market price". Well i sent them a long email showing other 323i an the prices for them, plus reg us spec e30 that are over 2k, and oh my trans is worth 1500 on its own (dogleg). Gave them about 6 numbers from good bmw shops to call and ask what a 85 full euro spec 323i with sport houndstooth, dogleg, 3.91lsd, uncracked dash would go for. We shall see what they come back with. I dont want no totaled title on my car, even tho I will be keeping it.

Shiesty? Really? I'm sure you'd be Captain Ethical when your early euro E30 got smacked into by some irritating tailgating twat.

Wow, shocking that they'd a.) value it for that little, and b.) suggest totalling a car for little more than a taillamp and some minor paintwork. Hopefully your e-mail can get them to understand that this kind of car would typically bring $4-5k (condition/mileage-dependant.)

So, to get this straight, you can total the car and receive $1500 or you can repair it and receive $2000? Just wanted to make sure I was understanding that correctly. I'd take the latter option, it'd be a pity for that car to be totalled over such little damage (not to mention, if you ever sell that car, it would be irritating to have to go into "yeah, it's technically totalled, but...") Check those bumper mounts to make sure they didn't flex from the impact, the whole mounting kit is ~$60 IIRC.

        Good luck.

I can get the 1500 an have a totaled title, or take the 2k an they take the car. I dont plan on selling it, just dont want to have a totaled title. I know some wouldnt care and just say take the 1500 and keep the car. I will take the 1500 but will not let them total it out. Not fighting on the amount for them to pay just fighting on them totaling it.

This looks like it could end up as another example of why insurance companies actually no nothing about cars.

got a call from insure today. they are going to have another estimate done on the car, from what i thought the body shop wrote it up as a 325e an will put us spec parts on the car. so i will drop the car off on monday an let them go over it again (from the insure comp) an rewrite the estimate and redo the pricing on what the car is worth.

                Update.
Got a call from the insure co. an the new estimate is now $1922 to fix the car and they will not be making a totaled title. So now its just waiting on the check to come in from them. About 1-2hr worth of work in finding prices, on cars and parts, all so I dont have a totaled title. But paid off with it not going to be plus even more cash for me.
