The Hell is Wrong with my Vert?

So ive owned my cabrio for a month now and aside from being autotragic (soon to be 5 speed :D) and having a little rust :shifty, the only other thing that needs work is the top. I dont know if it was the PO or the one before him but someone decided to fuck up the interior panels and top of the compartment by adding their own type of "manual" top. Nonetheless, its my job to fix it:/

This is my first cabrio and i don't really know much about all the things "convertible related" lolz Can someone help me out and tell me what is needed to fix the PO's fuckup? Is it already a manual top that was screwed up? Am i needing to do an automatic-manual conversion or is there something totally different that i need to do?

Heres some pictars to help out

RIght side of the compartment (i removed the black cover thing that was there):

    Left side:

And of course the genius solution: He added some strap-type things to hold down the lid when the top is down

    Left side:

    Right side:

Aside from drilling through the panels and messing them up, the other major problem is that the right side of the lid won't stay all the way down! Its raised slightly because the straps are too long and won't lower the lid down enough

Oh and whenever i try and press the top switch on the panel i can hear a "click" in the back but it wont close the lid completely.

Someone help out this noob and help me fix my vert <3

Edit: I know this is a longshot but Trina, if you're in here, id really appreciate your help, too :shifty

Get familiar with www.e30ic.com . Not really sure what you problems are but off the bat, there is a rod that goes from the lid to the pivot in the compartment...#2. Its missing and it opens/closes to lid.

This little box to the right of my glove actuates the motors to raise/lower top and lock lid. If the motors are good, tapping these relays will turn the motors. It will make more sense when you see it in action.

meh. #5 is the issue. you need to retension the cables to pull it tight.

see how the cords are slack, that need to be taught

If you hard wire the top motor (#9) so that from the inside, the center bracket (#10) turns clockwise, it should tighten the lock that holds the lid closed.

you also put the lever back together wrong

the teardrop goes between the 2 flanges

also part #4 is bent and needs to be replaces. part #2 has sheared off

Looking at this thread makes me so happy that I have a manual top.

Thats the easy way out. Its a thing of beauty seeing a top fold up with a touch of a button.
