I'm looking at trying to rent some garage space in my area. My current garage at my apartment isn't big enough to open the doors of my E30 on both sides and maybe an extra 6ft behind it. I like to do some detailing on the side for extra money and my current spot isn't big enough by any means. Also would be nice to have a larger space to work on my cars. Will likely be splitting the space with a friend or two. My problem is I don't know where to look. Local craigslist is nothing but storage lockers or people renting single apartment garages. Google brings up pretty much the same results. Aside from roaming around and trying to find vacant spots, is there a good website to look at>? Also not sure what I should be paying? I need at minimal about the size of a decent two car garage, water and electricity. Just looking for some insight if anyone here does the same.

If I were looking for renting someone garage at a house I'd keep checking craigs list.
If you want a legitimate commercial space - just go to the industrial area of town and look for all those buildings with roll up doors. And some self storage place will allow you to do work in them - but most won't - for insurance reasons.
I'm not too sure if a realtor would be helpful. But it might be worth a call - call and ask for someone that does commercial stuff.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics? -
Most people I know either found a garage on Craigslist or though talking to local land lords with multiple rental properties. Seems like around 100$ for a single bay with electric is standard around me, finding one with water is a bitch usually thoughShawn @ Bimmerbuddies

I do to store my car in. I found mine driving around my area. Their was a sign on the lawn of a home which had a 5-unit garage in the back, brand new. Called up, spoke to a Realtor, rented it same day, W/O Realtor fees also. In NJ to rent a storage space at a storage facility large enough for a car is usually about 250~300 a month, plus insurance. Mine is a steal at $125. some think i'm nuts for renting, but my car is off the street, and i can do side work out of there to make $ to at least cover the expense.

Suggestion!!
Hey, Nick !!
To be frank I had given my garage on rent at 200$ for a single bay with electricity!! But I left that place and now I used to stay far away from the garage but every month the renter deposit 200$ on to my account!! :) :) which can be called as a side business :) :)Comment

I just answered an ad in craigslist for a small one in our buiness district. It was 200 a month with air/electric/and water no facilities though. I put renters insurance on the place for 40 a month and was quite happy.
Now my storage garage was 100 a month and NO work with no services strictly a storage unit.Comment

Most of what I have found so far has been in this range but is unfortunately just someone renting unused single garage's behind an apartment building. I need something a bit bigger as I already have a single car garage.I do to store my car in. I found mine driving around my area. This is sort of what I'm looking at. I've got one friend who's pretty interested and figured if I could find one or two more to split the cost, we could actually get a decent usable space. Most of them just work on motorcycles.
That's the issue. Even though primarily I want it for detailing cars on the side. I still want a larger space to work on my cars.
What's the size of the place you just got? That price range and amenities sounds ideal.I just answered an ad in craigslist for a small one in our buiness district. Bay area + working on car = nasty cost no matter how you look at it.
even DIY here is expensive; there used to be a garage in san francisco that would rent a lift with air for about $80/day but they could not hold their permit.
San Francisco is about as corrupt a city as zoning/permits/misc bs can be.OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

I live in Western Mass so rates are generally cheap. Mine was 18x32 deep with 16 foot ceiling oh forgot to mention no Heat so I relied on a salamander with ventilation.
Not smartest source of heat for an enclosed space.Comment
