    HELP!! e36 tire size!!

My dad has purchased a set of Beyern Mesh 18" wheels for his e36 328is. The gentleman at discounttiredirect has told him to go ahead and order all four 18x8.5, front with tire size 225/45/18 and rear 245/40/18. I am not sure the reasoning in discouraging my dad in going with a staggered width tire but not an (available) size 9.5 rear. He was recommended on the phone that a staggered with wheel is bad (WTF??) The research I have done has left me with one conclusion:

    Recommended by discountire:

front: 18x8.5 225/45/18 (tire's aspect ratio seems a little large ehh??)
rear: 18x8.5 245/40/18 (same here with the aspect ratio)

    What I recommended:

    front: 18x8.5 225/40/18
    rear: 18x9.5 245/35/18

    Whats going on here???

    Any help would be appreciated...

No need to run staggered wheels and tires on that vehicle. All it will due is create undersirable handling characteristics, and make it a pain in the ass to properly rotate tires and get optimal life out of them.

    18x8.5 on all 4 corners.

    235/40R18 or 245/35R18 all around.

Does the 328 have stock suspension? With stock suspension on my e36 I got rub with 245's in the rear (non rolled fenders).

I would go with 235's all around personally.
      tasty

Yes, his e36 does have stock suspension currently running M-contour replicas with 225/45/17 17x7.5 front and 245/40/17 17x8.5 rear. Tire rotation and optimal tread life have both been thrown out the window a long time ago. The wheel upgrade is merely for looks and not flat out handling as the car is not intended for autocross/ track day usage. The vehicle is garaged and not daily driven. I guess my biggest question was why a staggered tire width was recommended and not the available staggered wheel width?

        Anyways thanks for suggestions...
