So I am pretty sure I know what happened. I discussed it with a coworker.

The head gasket was leaking water into the combustion chamber, which I saw since coolant was shooting out of my loose fitting turbo adapter. After the gasket popped, the car sat for a few days.. probably leaking coolant. When I started it, I didn't hear any popping noises of the rocker arms, but they probably got semi hydrolocked. Time to look further deeper into it. If there is bottom end damage, I am probably going to scrap the turbo idea and cut my losses. If pistons and such seem to be untouched, I will be ordering IE rocker arms

i will bet you were having contact with pistons to break 5 rockers.

New valve springs- that is 90% of he problem, and you won't have any broken rockers anymore.
1+ The odds are easy...boost stock parts=broken parts. IE HD rockers and Schrick valve springs. Never worry again.

Pull your cam and check for damage. I bet you got shards in the journals.

The car did not achiveve boost, it has been stuck in vacuum since the exhaust leak was excessive.

Will check the cam and what not. And look into the valve springs. Appreciate the input guys thanks

Wait... So u drove it after u saw coolant leakin out the poor fitting turbo flange?

            Problems
            #1 coolant in exhaust.
            #2 poor fitting flange
#3 you drive it again w those existing problems.

Never seen broken rockers from hydro lock. Rods bend i know. I guess it could happen. Let us know what pistons look like.
            Now with 2.7i power!!!

I had an M20 run strong for 100km before failing due to contact.

Just for my own curiosity, can you elaborate on the "Clay" your speaking of?

No. The car looked 100% when i drove it. When the hg popped, i parked the car to take a breather from it. Since I wasnt 100% sure it was the head, i tried to start it to see if I had compression or possibly less compression. Thats when I noticed that coolant pissed out of the turbo adapter.. then I assume thats when things went haywire.

I am gonna see if I can pull the head tonight. Its been raining non stop and the car is outside.

This is pretty much impossible. If it were one cylinder messed up, I guess I could find some very small inkling of unlikly feasibility here. Five cylinders hydro locked at the same time from a bad head gasket? Come on! even one hydro locked cylinder would be extremely unlikely to break a rocker.

I know you don't want to admit to yourself that you could have screwed something up. However......you just need to tear it down and see how bad the valves are messed up from piston contact.

First off, I have nothing to hide. I am a college kid who has done all my own work and this has been my first engine rebuild and turbo so its bound for error. I just have no chance in believing that a timing belt stretched in less then 1 mile.. Or how all the valves were good running and 5 broke suddenly.

I just find it funny that with a leaky head gasket that was sitting had led to rockers breaking... Just my 2 cents.

If I knew a timing belt could stretch under such a rediculous 1 minute of strain, I would have never considered the m20. I just can't believe that..

Something having to do with the belt could have loosened up though. You sure you put the pistons in the right way?

Yes because that I did with my teachers guidance. I will double check the arrows are going the right way though.

If it isn't raining one of these damn days I wi pull the head and see how she looks.
