I have pressure washed my saabs engine on multiple occasions before selling it to "get rid" of the engine oil leaks without any negative side effects car started right up and ran fine.. that said, i definitely would not pressure wash a 20+ year old engine bay due to the age of everything including wires/ hoses seals etc they get brittle with age and i would be pretty nervous pressure washing an e30's bay..
I too also agree with hot engine, degreaser, scrub brushes and easy flowing water would be ideal for cleaning an e30 engine bay.. plus if you doing it this way you can pay much more attention to detail than just pressure washing.. pressure washing always misses shit
At work after doing a big job, I'll test drive to get it nice and hot then spray everything down with a generic degreaser. Let it sit for a minute and use low pressure water pinching the hose to make it spray a little harder/wider. Cleans up great and since the engine is hot it dries quickly. I always brake clean off the big oil residue ahead though.
