Anyone know anything about newer 5ers?

My dad has an 06 530xi and he bought a spare key from BMW and the new key has been causing the car yo set the alarm off what causes this? And can It be fixed? Or is the key faulty? Thanks in advance

Sounds like he needs to go back to the dealer to have the key recoded. Only a certain number of keys can be ordered directly from the dealer for any BMW.

There are various non-leagalish ways to reprogram a newer key but you'd have to search around. I found one or two when I had my '08 335.

Oh so we have to go to the dealer we have a detailing shop so we get the parts cheap but the work is still the same extreme price so I was hoping to not have them do work they cost so much at the stealership

I was under the impression the only way to obtain an OEM key or get it coded to the car was to go through a dealer...?

you should have the lost key "locked". regardless, the key shouldn't be setting off the alarm. have them read out the alarm trips and see what is actually tripping it.
