    Buying an e23 83 733i tomorrow

Alpine white with red leather. 155k $1000... Any advice specific to this body style and earlier m30s? Wiki says its a timing chain engine and its been well taken care of. Ive had an e32 and and e38 but never an e23!

Very much the truth there. On a side note some Bilstein and some H&R's make this bohemouth of a land whale wake up. 5 speed swap is fun and the car is not that heavy BUT is very prone to RUST. The front suspension is very weak but can be upgraded to E32 standards.

Probably the most active message board for E23 is this

The 7 Series E23 Forum : BimmerBoard is an online community for BMW owners and enthusiasts. Inspect it good and expect the front seats to have gangsta leans.

Thanks for the responses all...fortunately there's no rust but the manual swap is out of the question for now. Damn thing wont crank right after i buy it. To say the least im pissed but wont let it bring me down. It started up Thursday no problem and drove like a champ and the lady even drove it to my house and it ran fine.

I know this isnt the place, but any thoughts? Im thinking ignition switch, starter, or coil. The battery's fine, which is almost unfortunate in this situation. It's a sweet car though and i've already started buying parts...

I love e23s so much, and the starting issue will not take long to resolve. She drove it to you. Make a list and run through it. Don't forget about relays, they are a big issue. Check for fuel and spark first.

3rded the HVAC system sucking. Lots of very expensive proprietary vacuum solenoids that are probably shot at this point, being 30 years old.

Surprisingly the AC and blower work, but the controls are stuck. Thankfully, with it being 100°, its stuck with AC on blowing cold. It was converted to r134a.

Here it is by the way:

I shouldve taken a pic of the red leather, no splits, i was really surprised. The wood is shot though.

Had to ninjaedit out the link. Don't want to get it scooped before I get a peak at it.

Did you get yours driving yet? Impressions?
