Buying the Wife a new DD need your input (non E30 content)

Ok the wife has gone off the deep end and wants a new kid hauler...
So she's got it narrowed down to the
Toyota Sienna "SE". White with black wheels and murdered out trim.. (gets my vote)
    Or the
Honda Odyessy Pearl white, black wheels, and a Moo moo... ugh

We went and looked at both, Drove both, looked at many colors options, and many other kid haulers.

    So what say you...

          Honda odyssey

My father bought one new in 2004 and owned it until 2012. (bought a 535xi)

Had it the entire time with only one problem, transmission recall which was fixed for free. Not a single problem from then on. Beautiful engine the 3.5 vtech ran unbelievably smooth and did not have a single issue. Regular oil changes were done and spark plugs at 70k miles.

I've never owned either, but have put in a lot of miles behind the wheel of my friend's previous generation Sienna. I was not impressed.

It was quiet, rode well & handled good enough. Plenty of storage bins & cup holders galore. But it seemed like the engineers spent all their time on the interior and none of it on some basic functions. A few of my gripes:

-Transmission can't figure out which gear you should be in. Kicks down 2 or 3 gears at a time, only to upshift immediately.

-Cruise control varies by about 7 mph. Always. Doesn't matter which mode you're in or what speed you're trying to keep. Absolutely annoying.

-Every freaking door is electronically-controlled except the front two. The rear hatch is SLLOOOOOWWWW to open and emits a wicked-loud BEEP whenever it is opened or closed. This is very annoying when you're trying to get something out of the back late at night. In a campground. Ten feet away from the next tent. In the pouring rain.

-Fuel door is electronically controlled, too. That's fine. A dash light shows you that it is opened. Fine too. The van knows you are fueling. So why does the van allow the side door to be opened (electronically) by a kid, ramming it into the fuel nozzle & spraying fuel everywhere?

-Those doors decided to quit working. Cost my friend around $1,800 to have the dealer get them running again.

My vote goes to the Honda. With a warranty.

I'm not convinced anyone needs a minivan over a wagon, unless they have 3+ kids. That said - I don't like minivans or black wheels, and that Sienna still kinda works.

As a vendor to both Honda and Toyota, I get the chance to be in the shop with both models frequently. My vote goes to the Sienna. I'm fairly certain that Honda no longer has the PAX tire setup on the Odysee, but I would guarantee I would never own one for that reason alone. Aside from that, there are minimal service issues and Toyota and Honda both (at least in my area) have a great service staff.

They're both in the same league as far as the service end goes, so I would say by whichever has the better deal. You could also let the sales rep know you are looking at the competition to knock some money off the sticker.
