Wish they were easier to find with manual transmissions.

After going from an old MB to BMW, i found out that MB cars are built better than BMW as far as quality goes. The car was a tank, and I got rid of it mainly because i wanted a smaller nimbler car. I debated for a while between a w201 and e30 and finally decided to try an e30 because of all the hype I read and hear about them.

I understand your preference of W123 for its looks, but check out the W124 if you're serious about a comfortable long distance highway car.

...btw also, if you're after power, then look for the 1987 300D with the 6 cyl om603 diesel.
      +1
The 124 diesels are more fuel efficient, faster and far more comfortable and quiet than the 123.

the 124 was awesome. Miss that car so much. Great fuel mileage, but still drove like a gasser. The 190 is slower, but better on gas.
As an OM603/5spd driver I agree. I'm never selling this car. I put 5700miles on it in 2 months and averaged 39mpg.

I was under the impression that the parts were hard to come by.

240d 4spd manuals are dime a dozen. Being in Canadia you might even find some 5spd.

This is my old one a 78 240d and it was slow as balls, I had fun with it but it was dangerously slow. I would recommend getting a 300d. Mine was also a 4spd manual.

DO IT, w123's just grow on you every day, plus your planned mods would make it even better

When he say dangerously slow he means DANGEROUSLY slow. I have to keep an eye on my rear view after a right hand turn to make sure I don't get smashed. LOL. If you've ever driven a vdub bus it's almost equivalent.

For real, Merging on the highway, or even turning onto a busy street was a challenge, getting up to speed took at while. It did 0-60 once I think

Ya that's why I'm looking for a 300d turbo is due to the lack of speed with the 240
But i'm also looking to do some major engine work to help with the highway performance. I want this to be a Vegas runner. And if the ability to pull out the performance i'm looking for I've secured the option of swapping to a healthy cummings motor and trans setup...:D

Lol +1 for dangerously slow. Merging is the worst, and going over mountain passes is laughable. Safe to say I've gone sub 25 on interstate freeways in the slow lane, looking in my rear view mirror praying I won't get smashed into by the traffic that's doing 75+
