Toying with purchasing a Blue Oval car. Yes Ford

Liked these as a teen and have toyed with buying a turbo powered car. They are semi collectible status. Has anyone owned one? As a bone stock car how was it? Sub-Par? Or fun?

Found a few in my area that are low mileage cars and clean. In the 5k range.

I love SVOs the later ones are the best they changed a few things through there short run but by the end they were pretty potent cars for their time, competing with e30 m3s and the like. Parts are actually affordable too since ford does a lot of parts bin sharing.

That's the car i'm looking at as well. It's a very clean 86 and love the Grey over Grey with factory Recaro's.

I think I would get rid of the maze of vacuum lines and such got to a modern turbo and new map ignition vs the AFM style it has. keeping all to stock equipment like I do with my M's.

        Do it!

Do it do it do it!

The SVO seems to have more character than the GT/5.0.

It's car related so it's not off topic.

Pretty cool car, one of my buddies bought one maybe a year ago, very unique setup from Ford.

I've never owned or even driven one, but I love Foxbody 5.0 'Stangs. The sound can not be compared. That being said I also really like the SVO's, but personally for a hoon mobile I'd go for the 5L just for the 'fix it with a hammer' factor and being able to use JY truck parts on it.

While it won't be like M3's are now, I agree with your assesment of their collector status.

They look a lot better as DTM cars.

I drove a 5.0 a few years back. Not the greatest around corners or the fastest but, it's neat looking and with a little work would be a lot of fun to drive.

I always thought they looked pretty horrendous. Actually only first gen and the 5th gen (current) really do anything for me. Actually come to think of it, most american cars from the 70s, 80s, and 90s are pretty awful.

That's just the thing. Honestly stock e30's really aren't the most fun to drive but a bit of work and they are amazing. I'm sure that with some poly bushings, swaybars and some proper dampers and springs one of those old Foxies would be a hoot on some back roads, and getting power from them wouldn't be that difficult or expensive, either, especially one with a carb.

A big dirty old carb, intake manifold, headers/exhaust and a cam and I bet they'd rip well enough to put a big grin on your face.
