    Importing car from Canada

Isnt there someone here that has an E30 Touring model in the US? Or are they in Canada? Ive found a Touring that was brought over from Germany recently and is now in Canada, but it sounds like a lot of trouble to bring it into the US. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this ?

    thanks
    Nick

What makes it a huge effort?

Trailer it or have it trailered and there it is.

I looked into purchasing a Canadian e30 a few years ago. Itll cost you a good 700-1000 bucks to convert it to US specs and itll take a while. Only select places can do it for you.

THen again you could always find some parts car and take its vin number. Have fun with insurance if you ever get in a wreck.

Register it in VT. first. No title needed, just a bill of sale. Doesnt matter where it came from.

Is that for real? How does that work with following the VIN number?!?! if I could do that I'd buy an e30 or e36 ix touring for winter, too!

otherwise, it's a pain in the ass. Will cost you ~7k to convert.

if you're just looking to bring in a car that was intended for use in canada, it's easy.

but if its a car from germany, you have to go through a registered importer. I remember someone saying they knew how to get it done for ~3k, but I'm not quite sure if I believe that until I see it done

An RI has to do the proper switch over, some cars take a lot, some not so much. For example to bring in a Sport EVO it would cost roughly 1000.00 shipping and 5000.00 to the importer. Double that figure if you buy a car in Germany.

There are some tricks as well.

Yes, you are also correct. Some states dont give a fuck and will issue a US title......as long as you have that and US plate...... Its all good!!!! Now its not a german car.... its a out of state car... However, some states are very picky and will nail you if it has german regs and tags but will let you go if you have any other us state plates and reg( they assume that its all good)

Depends on the year as well. US 25 years or older no sweat bring whatever in. Canada 15 years. Alot of the car collectors will us a Canadian address to get some of the cars in Hence the Sport EVO , Lancia F-car. ETC.
