Battery cutoff, good or bad idea?

My dad has a cutoff on his Chevelle that allows him to unhook the battery so it isnt drained by whatever in the car might still be draining it.

Now, of course, with the DME, alarm, and radio mine has more to drain it but also more to be affected by unhooking it. My concern is running no alarm and losing all the settings (including the DME tuning) by unhooking it

Currently I drive it a few minutes every couple weeks to make sure its charged up.

Anyone know of a way to minimize the risk of a dead battery but still keep all those things alive so I dont have to reprogram everything when I wanna take the E30 out?
    Im now E30less.

It cant be that hard to let it idle for a while out in the driveway at night or something.

I have killed four autozone batteries by letting them run down from non-use.

I am thinking about getting a battery cutoff.

lol this is pretty funny, cause i was actually thinking the same thing.

my dad put a wing nut on the ground to his battery and unhooks it when he's not driving it, but my concern was the same; that his is carbed and has no computer.

Get a battery charger and leave it hooked up while youre not driving it.

Bavarian autosport has a trickle charger that won't damage your battery by leaving it connected for long periods of time.

I use relays on my aux. batteries, not my main though since I drive my car all the time.

If I was going for a switch, I'd just use a big relay that way I don't have to ever remember to turn my switch on/off

I use a cutoff on mine, although I only hit it when I work on the car, or if I know i'm not going to drive the car for over a week.

I have no clock, the alarm saves its settings without issue, and the stereo has no FM presets (satellite adapter saves those)

I just unhooked the battery. Granted, I have no motorswap.

With my e30 I just left it with battery hooked on. Car in garage for 4 weeks with clock, dme and big stereo and started without a problem...had a diesel battery by the way.
