Same thing happened to me last week. I ordered a set of VR head bolts from Pelican and two arrived with noticable bends. I got refunded for them but it doesn't change the fact that my engine's been put on hold while I wait for OEM bolts to arrive. Thanks Victor.

Ive always thought this as well but hesitate to call out customers. Installing on warped heads that havent been checked, improper torque or torque sequence.

I had no issue with my eta, full VR. had an oil seep 50 miles after on a full VR on my 325i and my dad's 325i VR bolts bmw HG, no issue. im really thinking it's their quality control. bc the car i had an issue on, i followed bentley's manual, had the head machined, chased the block threads and followed torquing specs and copper sprayed the HG.

Recently used the VR head kit sans actual head gasket (went Goatze for peace of mind) all is well here. See if you can get them replaced. Or be super cool and go ARP.

Yeah, I just got a box of their bolts. All were fine. And I'm inclined to think the rumors about their gaskets blowing may be due to improper installation.

Never used their bolts but have replaced numerous gaskets with theirs and never had an issue.

At first i thought you were my customer as this exact thing(almost) happened last week This is what I got from my customer


"Hey Steve. Received a set of M20 head bolts (victor reinz, torx head) with an issure. 10 bolts worked while 2 did not. The 2 had resistance upon tightening by hand and we stopped due to fear of ruining the block's threads. When trying with other head bolts (old or new) the threads in the block worked fine, showing the bolts as the problem. I was wondering if I could receive replacements in order to finish the job, or we could work something out."

I overnighted him another set.. This is the first time Ive heard of any issue with their head bolts

i've had their bolts strech. and seen the HG fail more that 10x a year.
get the BMW bolts from bmw, never seen anyone have an issue with them and that only like $10 more than the VR.

It's kind of hard to bend a bolt in transit...

that said, I have VR bolts on the Slo3 car...
