I plan on buying the car, so I don't think it was a bad decision at all. Plus with the rising cost of petrol (premium, at that since that's what both my E30 and E46 use), it was the time to do it.

This morning, I woke up to a text from my wife telling me she took the TDI. Because she commutes 50 miles a day for work, I foresee her driving that car more than I do. It's alright, that gives me more time to bond with my E46 that she has been driving for the past year.

My X5 wasn't in the best shape, so I got a mere $3,500 for it. But I also bought the X5 for $500 and put about $2,000 into it, so I ended up coming out on top with it. Had the previous owner taken better care of it, this thread wouldn't exist. lol

Diesel cost more than 93 octane in my area. Funny how a less refined fuel cost more.

given how much she drives, I'd say it's a decent investment
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

Flex beam. And considering how much I pay for this and the rising cost of premium fuel (or petrol in general, I should say), it is a good investment.

Did you ever drive a MkV with 2.0 tdi? I have a 2010 tdi w DSG, the last of good ones built in Mexico before they went to the new US plant.
I just hit 90,000 and have been thinking its close to getting rid off, but cant decide whats next.
I saw a 2011 when they first came out and was not impressed. When I sold VW we would roll down the window and sit on the door to show its strength, but i was told you cant do that anymore.
I love that people ask stupid questions so I dont have.

But why would you ever need to sit on the doors? ;)

Now they slam the hell out of the doors, at least that's what my salesman did with the Passat tdi we were looking at..... All it did was piss me off that some guy is slamming the shit out of the door of the car I may purchase. Not very effective imho.

90k on a tdi is nothing. I am always amazed at how high their resale is with 150k plus miles on them.

Mk5's are a girl's car, IMO. With that said, I haven't driven one. Just the looks have turned me away from that particular body style. My TDI has a 6-speed DSG. And the Passat's are built in Tennessee. Jetta sedans are still built in Mexico.

I like the new body style.

Honestly I searched for a pink MKV, but only found that one an a MKIV all soaped up.

                                Mexico built a reliable car?

Also, I believe the Rabbit (mk5) was from Germany, not Mexico, hence the reason for the improved structure of the car.

Personally, it;s the only VW I'd ever buy as the GF and I were smitten with the one we test drove back in 08
